Hot Water Tanks

Hot water tanks come in sizes ranging from small 5 gallon to large 100 gallon or more. For the average home, the size of your tank will range from 40 -60 Gallon units depending on your family’s need.

Hot water tanks are standalone units that intake cold water to fill the reservoir, heating the water to a predetermined temperature. As the hot water is used in the home, the water level decreases and the tank is refilled with new cold water. Once a Hot water tank is emptied, it can take 30-45 minutes for the unit to reheat the cold water for use.

On Demand (Tankless) Hot water system

On Demand system also known as Tankless systems, are space saving and don’t use a tank to contain and heat the water for use. Water passes through the heat exchanger for rapid heating by way of either an electric or gas burner in the unit.

There are benefits to both types of hot water heating units.

Hot water tanks are less expensive on the front end, however, require more maintenance and care. Because water is constantly sitting in a tank, debris and corrosion can occur which can compromise the water quality, the tanks integrity, and the pipes in your home. Further, without biannual draining and cleaning, corrosion can compromise the bottom of the tank causing unexpected leaking.

On Demand systems, because they do not hold water, are less susceptible to damage from general use. These units are more expensive on the front end, but very affordable for with a longer lifespan than Hot Water tanks.
